Wire buying

Shielded Power Cable Buyers in South Carolina

Shielded power cable controls the electric field around a conductor, which is why it is required above 2 kV. It is a high-value product with a narrow buyer base, and it is frequently misidentified as ordinary cable.

Wire and cable only. Statewide South Carolina pickup, no obligation to sell.

What shielded power cable is

Above 2 kV, cable needs a metallic shield over the insulation to confine the electric field and provide a return path for charging current. That shield, plus the semiconductive layers, is what separates shielded power cable from building wire and drives its cost.

We buy 5 kV, 8 kV, 15 kV, 25 kV and 35 kV cable in copper and aluminum, with tape shields, wire shields and concentric neutrals, in XLPE and EPR insulation.

Evaluating a shielded cable reel

The reel tag is the most important document. Voltage class, conductor size, insulation thickness, shield type and length should all appear there. Without the tag, the cable end must be examined layer by layer to determine the class.

Jacket damage on shielded cable is more serious than on building wire, because moisture that reaches the insulation shield can degrade the cable. A reel that has been sitting in water is a different proposition from one stored on a rack.

Where surplus shielded cable comes from

Utility distribution work, substation construction, industrial plant expansions and data center medium voltage distribution all generate surplus. Because the cable is ordered in specific lengths, partial reels are normal.

We quote shielded cable reels individually and will arrange inspection for large inventories where the documentation is incomplete.

What we buy in this category

  • 15 kV shielded power cable, copper and aluminum
  • 5 kV and 8 kV shielded cable
  • 25 kV and 35 kV shielded cable
  • Tape-shielded and wire-shielded constructions
  • Concentric neutral cable
  • XLPE and EPR insulated power cable
  • Substation tie and feeder cable
  • Industrial medium voltage distribution cable
  • Full 1,000 ft and 2,500 ft reels
  • Partial reels with documented footage
  • Utility and contractor surplus
  • Mixed medium voltage cable lots

What photographs help us price this fastest

A shot of the reel tag, a close-up of the jacket print, a clear view of the cut end, and one overview photograph of the whole inventory. Four images usually settle every question we have without a site visit.

Questions about selling shielded power cable

How do I know the voltage class of shielded cable?

The reel tag and the jacket print normally state it. Without those, the insulation thickness and shield construction must be measured at the cable end.

Do you buy cable with damaged jacket?

We evaluate it, but jacket damage on shielded cable admits moisture and reduces value significantly. Photograph the damage.

What is a concentric neutral?

A layer of copper wires applied over the insulation shield, used as the neutral return on distribution cable. It is a common construction in utility and URD cable.

Can I sell a partial reel of 15 kV cable?

Yes. Medium voltage reels are high value per foot, so partial reels with a few hundred feet remaining are worth quoting individually.

Tell us what is on the reel

Send the basics and a few photographs. Reel tags, jacket markings and cut ends are usually enough for us to price the material without a site visit.

  • Manufacturer or brand, if legible
  • Wire type, gauge or size, and voltage rating
  • Approximate footage and number of spools
  • Photos of reel tags, jacket print and cable ends
