Wire buying

Medium Voltage Cable Buyers in South Carolina

Medium voltage cable runs from 5 kV to 35 kV and is the most valuable cable in most industrial inventories. It is also the category most often mispriced, because it looks like heavy black cable and gets sold by weight.

Wire and cable only. Statewide South Carolina pickup, no obligation to sell.

What we buy in medium voltage

We purchase 5 kV, 8 kV, 15 kV, 25 kV and 35 kV cable in copper and aluminum, with tape shields, wire shields and concentric neutrals. Both XLPE and EPR insulation are purchased, and both 100% and 133% insulation levels appear in utility and industrial inventories.

Typical sources are utility distribution projects, industrial plant expansions, data center medium voltage distribution and substation construction. Reels are usually documented, which makes valuation straightforward.

Why medium voltage is priced by specification, not weight

A 15 kV 500 kcmil copper cable and a 600 V 500 kcmil copper cable contain similar amounts of copper and differ in value by a factor of several. The semiconductive layers, insulation thickness, shield and jacket are what make medium voltage cable a specialty product.

That is why a scrap price on medium voltage cable is almost always a bad deal for the seller. We price on voltage class, conductor size, insulation type, shield construction, length and condition.

Condition and documentation

The reel tag should show voltage class, conductor size, insulation level, shield type and length. Jacket damage and moisture intrusion are the main risks. Cable stored on a rack indoors is preferable to cable stored in a yard.

If the documentation is incomplete, we can inspect the cable end and identify the construction layer by layer. For large inventories, an on-site inspection is usually the fastest path to a firm number.

What photographs help us price this fastest

A shot of the reel tag, a close-up of the jacket print, a clear view of the cut end, and one overview photograph of the whole inventory. Four images usually settle every question we have without a site visit.

Reel tags, jacket print and cut ends tell us what the material is.

Questions about selling medium voltage cable

Is 15 kV cable worth more than 600 V cable?

Yes, substantially. Medium voltage cable has shielding layers, thicker insulation and a much higher manufactured cost per foot.

Do you buy medium voltage cable with a damaged jacket?

We evaluate it, but jacket damage admits moisture and reduces value. Photographs of the damage and the cable ends are required.

Can you identify cable without a reel tag?

Yes, by examining the cable end. Voltage class, insulation thickness and shield construction can be determined from a cross-section.

Do you buy cut lengths of medium voltage cable?

Yes, generally 100 feet and above, depending on the construction and condition.

Tell us what is on the reel

Send the basics and a few photographs. Reel tags, jacket markings and cut ends are usually enough for us to price the material without a site visit.

  • Manufacturer or brand, if legible
  • Wire type, gauge or size, and voltage rating
  • Approximate footage and number of spools
  • Photos of reel tags, jacket print and cable ends
