Wire buying

URD Cable Buyers in South Carolina

Underground residential distribution cable is what utilities and developers run to pedestals and transformers. It is bought in large reels, and when a subdivision phase finishes, the leftover reels are worth recovering.

Wire and cable only. Statewide South Carolina pickup, no obligation to sell.

URD surplus from developers and utilities

Subdivision work consumes URD in 1,000-foot increments, and the last phase of a project usually leaves reels behind. Contractors doing underground service work hold the same material in smaller quantities. Both are purchased.

The most common items are 2-2-2 and 4/0-4/0-2 aluminum URD for services, and 15 kV primary URD for distribution. Street lighting cable, often 2-2-2 or 2-1/0, is a separate product and is quoted the same way.

Direct burial ratings and jacket condition

URD is designed to be buried, so the jacket has to survive soil contact. Sunlight resistance matters during storage and installation. Jacket damage is more serious on URD than on interior wire because the cable cannot be visually inspected after installation.

Check the reel ends for nicks, flattened sections and moisture. If a reel has been sitting in a puddle, the ends may have wicked water under the jacket, which is a real problem on 15 kV cable.

Medium voltage URD

15 kV and 25 kV URD is constructed with a semiconductive shield, insulation and concentric neutral, and it is priced very differently from 600 V service cable. Tell us the voltage class up front and photograph the cable end showing the layers.

Primary URD reels are usually purchased individually because the value per foot is high. We will quote from reel tags and photographs where the footage is documented.

What photographs help us price this fastest

A shot of the reel tag, a close-up of the jacket print, a clear view of the cut end, and one overview photograph of the whole inventory. Four images usually settle every question we have without a site visit.

Questions about selling urd cable

Do you buy URD cable from developers?

Yes. Phase closeouts and leftover reels from subdivision work are common purchases.

Is 15 kV URD priced differently from 600 V URD?

Yes, substantially. Medium voltage cable has shielding layers and a much higher cost per foot, so it is quoted individually.

Can I sell URD that was stored outdoors?

Usually yes. URD is UV-stabilized, but long-term exposure still degrades the jacket. Reels stored on the ground may have moisture at the ends.

What is the difference between URD and USE-2?

URD is a twisted assembly for underground distribution, often with a bare neutral. USE-2 is a single-conductor underground service entrance cable, also direct-burial rated.
