THWN and THWN-2 Wire Buyers in South Carolina

THWN and THWN-2 are the wet-location versions of the standard building wire family, and they are what most modern reels are actually marked. We buy both, in copper and aluminum, across the full size range.

Wire and cable only. Statewide South Carolina pickup, no obligation to sell.

Where THWN-2 surplus comes from

Any project with exterior conduit, underground feeders or washdown areas specifies wet-rated wire. When the project finishes, the leftover reels stay in the shop because they are too useful to discard and too slow to inventory. We buy those reels directly.

Municipal work, wastewater plants, food processing, car washes, parking structures and coastal construction all generate THWN-2 surplus. Because the rating is stricter than plain THHN, the resale market is narrower but the material is more useful when it is correctly identified.

What we check before quoting

First, the print: THWN, THWN-2, or dual-rated THHN/THWN-2. Second, the size and conductor material. Third, the footage and whether the reel is factory sealed or opened. Fourth, condition: water intrusion at the reel ends, crushed flanges, and UV damage if the reel has been stored outside.

Small quantities of THWN-2 are usually not worth a dedicated pickup on their own, but they are worth including in a mixed lot with larger reels. We will tell you when a load makes sense to move and when it does not.

Copper and aluminum THWN-2

Copper THWN-2 is the higher-value product and moves quickly in #12 through 4/0. Aluminum THWN-2 is typically used for larger feeders, and 250 MCM through 500 MCM aluminum reels are common in industrial settings. Both are purchased, priced differently and quoted separately.

If your inventory includes both, send the photographs together. We will return a line-item offer rather than a single lump number, so you can decide what to sell and what to keep.

What photographs help us price this fastest

A shot of the reel tag, a close-up of the jacket print, a clear view of the cut end, and one overview photograph of the whole inventory. Four images usually settle every question we have without a site visit.

Questions about selling thwn / thwn-2

Can I sell THWN wire that was installed and removed?

Yes, if it was not damaged during removal. Pulled wire with intact insulation and legible print is evaluated like partial reel stock; damaged jackets or kinked conductor reduce value.

Is THWN-2 worth more than THHN?

Generally it holds equal or slightly better value because it serves more applications. The bigger factors are size, footage and condition.

Do you buy small quantities of THWN-2?

Yes, as part of a mixed lot. A single partial spool is usually not economic to collect on its own.

How do you confirm the temperature rating if the print is gone?

Through the reel tag, carton label, or a physical inspection where the insulation and jacket can be identified.
