Wire buying

SER Cable Buyers in South Carolina

SER cable is the round service entrance cable used for subpanels, meter stacks and feeders. It is ordered in quantity for residential and light commercial work, so surplus reels and cut lengths are common.

Wire and cable only. Statewide South Carolina pickup, no obligation to sell.

SER surplus from residential and commercial work

Electrical contractors buy SER in the sizes their typical service calls need, and the leftovers accumulate. A 250-foot reel of 4/0 aluminum SER with 180 feet left is a normal item in a contractor's yard, and it is worth real money because the next job can use it.

Aluminum SER dominates residential and light commercial feeder work in South Carolina because of cost. Copper SER appears in smaller sizes and in applications where aluminum is not permitted or not preferred.

Sizes that move quickly

2-2-2-4 aluminum is the standard 100-amp subpanel cable and moves constantly. 1/0 and 2/0 aluminum SER cover most 125 to 150 amp feeders. 4/0-4/0-4/0-2/0 covers 200 amp services and is the highest-volume large size. 350 MCM SER appears in larger commercial work.

Cut lengths are fine as long as they are usable. A 60-foot piece of 4/0 SER has a buyer; a 6-foot piece usually does not. We will tell you where the line falls.

How SER is evaluated

Footage, size, conductor material and jacket condition are the four factors. SER jacket damage exposes the insulated conductors but does not necessarily ruin the cable; crushed or water-filled reels are more serious. Sun exposure degrades the jacket over time, so reels stored outdoors for years are inspected at the ends.

Photograph the reel tag, the jacket print and the cut end showing the conductor arrangement and bare ground. That is enough for most quotes.

Questions about selling ser cable

Do you buy SER cable in cut lengths?

Yes, generally 25 feet and above, depending on size. Larger sizes justify shorter pieces.

Is aluminum SER worth selling?

Yes. Aluminum SER is the most common feeder cable in residential and light commercial work in South Carolina and has a steady resale market.

What is the difference between SER and SEU?

SER is a round assembly with a separate bare ground conductor. SEU is a flat assembly that uses a concentric neutral around the insulated conductors.

Can I sell SER that was stored outdoors?

Often yes. Sun-damaged jacket and moisture at the ends reduce value, but the cable is usually still usable if the conductors are dry.
