Wire buying
VFD Cable Buyers in South Carolina
Variable frequency drive cable is a specialized, expensive product, and surplus reels are frequently misidentified as ordinary tray cable. We buy VFD cable by construction and length, not by weight.
Wire and cable only. Statewide South Carolina pickup, no obligation to sell.
Why VFD cable holds value
VFD cable costs several times what standard tray cable costs because of the symmetrical ground construction and the shield. When a plant replaces drives or reroutes motor leads, leftover reels represent real money, and they are often set aside because nobody wants to discard them.
We buy 3-conductor-plus-3-ground VFD cable in sizes from 14 AWG to 500 kcmil, in 600 V and 1,000 V ratings, with tape, braid or combination shields. Lengths from a few hundred feet up are worth quoting individually.
Shield type and why it matters
The shield is the defining feature. Tape shields are common and effective; braid shields offer better mechanical durability; combination shields are used where both electrical performance and physical protection matter. Each type has a different resale audience, so tell us which one you have, or photograph the cut end.
Damaged shields are the main valuation problem. A nick in the copper tape or a broken braid can make a reel unusable for its intended purpose even though the conductors are fine. Inspect the reel ends before quoting.
Common sources of surplus VFD cable
Water and wastewater plants, paper mills, automotive suppliers, food processing lines and any facility with variable-speed pumping or conveying. When drives are upgraded, the motor leads are often replaced with a different size, leaving the old reels in storage.
Because VFD cable is often purchased in project-specific lengths, partial reels are the norm rather than the exception. We quote those routinely.

Specifications and buying notes
The table below reflects the constructions we see most often in South Carolina surplus. Variations exist between manufacturers, and the print on the jacket always governs.
| Construction | Three phase conductors with three symmetrical ground conductors, overall shield |
| Voltage rating | 600 V and 1,000 V |
| Temperature rating | 90°C dry, 75°C wet |
| Conductor sizes | 14 AWG through 500 kcmil |
| Shield | Copper tape, braid, or combination foil/braid with drain wire |
| Jacket | PVC, CPE or LSZH depending on manufacturer |
| Standards | UL 1277 tray cable ratings; TC-ER where marked |
| Applications | Motor leads between drives and motors, long cable runs, noisy environments |
What photographs help us price this fastest
A shot of the reel tag, a close-up of the jacket print, a clear view of the cut end, and one overview photograph of the whole inventory. Four images usually settle every question we have without a site visit.
Questions about selling vfd cable
How is VFD cable different from tray cable?
VFD cable adds symmetrical ground conductors and an overall shield to control electrical noise. That construction is what makes it suitable for drive-to-motor circuits and what makes it more valuable.
Do you buy VFD cable with a damaged shield?
We evaluate it, but shield damage usually limits the resale market. Send photographs of the damage and we will tell you what it is worth.
What sizes of VFD cable do you purchase?
From 14 AWG through 500 kcmil, in 600 V and 1,000 V ratings.
Can I sell a single partial reel of VFD cable?
Yes. VFD cable is high value per foot, so even a few hundred feet can justify a quote.

Tell us what is on the reel
Send the basics and a few photographs. Reel tags, jacket markings and cut ends are usually enough for us to price the material without a site visit.
- Manufacturer or brand, if legible
- Wire type, gauge or size, and voltage rating
- Approximate footage and number of spools
- Photos of reel tags, jacket print and cable ends
